Over Winter Break, a team of middle schoolers, their parents, and staff journeyed to Ensenada, Mexico for Legacy’s 6th annual Missions Trip. They partnered with Yugo Ministries to build a home for a family in need – The Loya Galvan Family, a couple and their two children. Yearning for a safe environment to raise their children in, the couple worked hard to make sacrifices for the last six years in order to buy a small piece of property on which the Legacy team would build the house.

Upon the team’s arrival in Ensenada, they met the family who shared their story. The dad had come out of a difficult lifestyle before receiving Jesus a year ago. He wanted his family to live in a safe neighborhood with less of the negative drug-filled influences. The mom mentioned she had never had a home growing up and she was very appreciative that our team would be able to provide a home for her children. The team started working on the house the very next day. The foundation was laid down on day one and by day two, the roof was finished before the rains came in. Mrs. Avila, Assistant Principal, shared, “We are in awe of the way God shows up and empowers us to do more than we can imagine as we share our compassion through our labors.”

One of our students summed up the highlight of the trip for us all – “Seeing the family so happy.” Just seeing the faces of each family member light up when they entered their new home, with beds, a stove, curtains, a table, and chairs was priceless. They were moved to see Jesus and His people care for them. Many of the team also expressed their joy of working alongside the family. It was a beautiful and successful week that will forever impact the Legacy Missions Team.

Until next year!

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” -Hebrews 13:16
