We believe in the inspiration of the Bible as the Word of God. We believe in its truthfulness and completeness as the only criterion and authority of both church and the individual for faith and practice. (2 Peter 1:19-21; 2 Tim. 3:16)
We believe that there is one God eternally existing, manifesting Himself to us in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Gen. 1:1; John 10:30; Col. 1:15, Isa. 48:16, 1Tim 1:17, Heb. 1:3 and 1 Cor. 1:19-20)
We believe in the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ; His virgin birth; His sinless life; His substitutionary death on the cross for our sins; his bodily resurrection from the grave; and His ascension to the right hand of God. (Matt. 1:18; John 1:3 and 1:14; 1 Cor. 15:3-4, Col. 1:15-20, Romans 8:3 and 34, 1 Peter 2:22, and Heb. 4:15)
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is God, possessed of all the distinctive divine attributes. (John 4:24, 1 Cor. 2:11, Heb. 10:15-16, and Job 33:4)
We believe in the reality and personality of Satan: that he is a created being, that the judgment already passed on him will be executed at the Revelation of Jesus Christ; and that ultimately he will be cast into the lake of fire. (John 8:44, Rev. 20:10; 1 Peter 5:8, Job 1:6 and Matt. 4:10)
We believe that man was created by God in his own image, not by evolution but by a special act of creation. We believe the Scripture record of the fall of man through his own disobedience, bringing the whole race under sin and death, and that man is totally depraved and hopelessly lost apart from the grace and salvation of God. Gen. 1:26-28; 2:7; Rom. 3:23; 5:12; Gal. 3:22, Eph. 2:8-9, 3:6-19, and Acts 2:21.
Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen 1:26-27.) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen. 2:18-25) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor
6:18; 7:2-5; Heb 13:4) We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God. (Matt. 15:18-20; 1 Cor. 6:9-10) We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of LCS as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to LCS members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by LCS in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality. (Matt. 5:16; Phil. 2:14-16; 1 Thess. 5:22) We believe that God offers
redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom. 10:9-10; 1 Cor. 6:9-11) We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of LCS.
We believe that salvation is by grace through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ; that it is instantaneous and wholly apart from human merit; that every individual is a sinner by birth; and that all accountable human beings are sinners by practice and by choice and therefore must exercise personal faith in the redeeming work of Christ on Calvary and receive Him as Savior in order to be saved. (Eph. 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; Ps. 51:5; Rom. 3:23; 10:9,10) We believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in full assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God’s Work, but at the same time, the Word clearly forbids the use of our liberty as an occasion to sin. (Rom. 13:14, and Titus 2:11-14) We believe that Salvation is eternal; that all who are truly born again are kept by God the Father for
the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 6:37-40, 10:27-30, I Peter 1:5, and Phil. 1:6)
